Took an alert fromMcAfee today--caught a Trojan. Got a question. When
reviewing the processes running on my my XP Pro machine, I see the two files
CMSS.exe and SMSS.exe running--one from System32 and the other from
"nowhere". Is this normal or am I having some weird, trojan-related issue?

Thanks

I have SMSS.exe running, I don't have CMSS.exe, nor did I find it in
Microsoft's knowledge base. A look in Google yielded 2 results, both
in Oriental languages

Take a look at these pages to see if you find CMSS.exe there:

You can do an antivirus scan and another using ad-aware and spybot to
look for malware:

Good luck
