Have a four-year-old eMachine that has been sitting for two or three years
before being given to us. Could not get it to boot - "Operating system not
found." Replaced power supply and hard drive, installed WinXP Home Edition.

Replaced CR2032 battery, and it now boots up; however, when it is shut down,
the battery has to be removed and reinstalled before it will boot again.

Sound and USB ports aren't working.

Following is the boot info:
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
PhoenixBIOS 4.0 Release 6.0
Copyright 1985-2001 Phoenix Technologies Ltd.
ver. 1.02

CPU - Intel Celeron CPU 2.60 Ghz
254 M System passed
128 cache SRAM passed
SystemBIOS shadowed
VideoBIOS shadowed

Error 0271 - Date and Time Settings

Error 251 - System CMOS Checksum bad - default configuration used.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Would appreciate any help available.
TIA

Correct the system date and time via CMOS/BIOS.
251 - If you have memory in mod 3 remove it.

When you shut down and try to reboot without replacing the battery, what
exactly happens?
If it boots to a blank screen with a blinking cursor top left....go into the
Boot Order settings and disable
CD Rom and Floppy or set them 2nd and third.

If you replaced the motherboard battery and are still having problems, the
machine is toast. I wouldn't spend a penny and a minute on a 4-year-old
eMachine with a dodgy motherboard. I'm sure this is not what you wanted to
hear, but it is my honest opinion. The machine is not worth repairing.

Try another battery, and then use the supplied motherboard CD to apply
drivers for USB and sound..
