hey got a problem not really too sure tho, it's like
this, my pc shutdown every other night when i'm not using
it, it's never shutdown when i am there but i guess when
i'm sleeping or away. it never restarts just shutsdowns,
i tried runing a scandisk and found some of my files
damaged and fixed it but seem that it was still
restarting. so i put in my OS cd and on dos i ran
scandisk on my drive and first thing it said was cluster
1 was damaged which had file i think by the name of
OSI.sys. is this may whats making my pc shutdown? and
will this be a harm to my data.....the surface scan said
it couldnt fix the problem what do i do??

I had a PC doing exactly this at work yesterday. Kept shutting down and
restarting whilst unattended then finally died. Pushed the power cable
fully home - problem solved!

Some software, like anti-virus, has an option to shut down when it has
finished scanning or updating your system. If this is scheduled to run
overnight, you might get this.

Many Microsoft updates require a computer restart to complete. Some
systems hang when they try to restart leaving a cursor in the top left
corner which you might not notice and think it is off.

Finally, are you certain it has shut down, or is it in standby mode. It
is so easy to hit the power switch thinking the computer is off when it
isn't. Then you can get file and hard drive damage.
