Close On Exit

I just upgraded from W98SE to XP Pro and have discovered a
feature that is different frfom W98SE or gone.

When running DOS commands such as COPY or XCOPY there was
a "Programs" tab with an option to "Close On Exit". I
used to use this "unchecked" so that I would know when
batch files using these commands were finished, rather
than just closing and not knowing the outcome of the batch
file.

How can I keep a DOS window from closing automatically in
Win XP?

Thanks,
Dave

Don't do it from Start - Run. (or if you do, start by loading the
command shell with cmd.exe) That is to be found at All Programs -
Accessories - Command prompt, and will stay open until you give Exit.

If you make a shortcut to a DOS program (eg to mem.exe) you can r-click
the shortcut, Properties and take close on exit on the Programs page.

Note that a shortcut made to a .bat file, for some reason, gets a
windows lnk rather than DOS Pif - to get round that, make a shortcut to
some DOS program, then edit the properties to have the bat file in the
command line
