I"ve got a small home/office network, with 4 computers. I cloned one
HD and setup in new machine, but cannot get this machine onto the
network. The new cloned machine was upgraded to XP, the other
machine is still W98. Two other machines (one W98, one ME) have no
problems.
I suspect the problem is conflicting (same)
"computer" ID, because if the machine it was cloned from boots up
while the other machine is on, then the "OK" machine can't connect to
network either. Shut down the new cloned machine, the other connects
to network OK. When network is set up in the new cloned machine,
there is no indication there is a problem, accept the setup cannot be
completed.
If the problem is the computer ID, I guess
it's a registration thing, and how do I fix that? Any ideas?
Thank you, Bonnie

Was the cloning tool you used Windows NT/2000/XP aware? You can't just do a
straight copy because the security identifiers will collide.
