After Surfing the web for awhile I get the "you are not connected to the
internet" error screen. But the DSL connection is still active. Here's what
happens....

Let's say I do a search on live.com, then I visit a few sites from the
search. If I try to go back to live.com, I get the error. PLUS, it seems to
be "company" specific. I can't go to Hot Mail, Live Messenger cannot log in
or I can't go to Microsoft.com (which made it a pain to get to this news
group). I can switch to google and it works, but eventually it won't work
either.

In order to fix it, I have to run "netsh winsock reset" and restartt the
computer. There are four people in our family that get on at various times
so the computer is getting reset a lot.

Mark,

your computer is probably infected, and the virus or worm or
adware or spyware possibly keeps reinserting itself into the
Winsock.

You have to clean or reinstall the computer. Some more
information can be found at http://winhlp.com/wxnet.htm .

Well, I "repaired" windows and reloaded the seventy-three updates. While the
updates were downloading, I already knew that it did not work as I could not
open msn.com (msn was "stuck" because I was downloading from microsoft
updates).

I have ran three different anit-virus and two spyware utilities and they
alway come back clean.

Can anyone think of any thing else?!?

Mark,

I'd recommend to fill in the form at http://winhlp.com/wxnet.htm
(use Internet Explorer) and follow the resulting advice
completely.

I have no better idea. There are many conceivable causes.
