My motherboard has been diagnosed as having a slightly fast clock, so
I was advised to download Atomic clock. I have done this, and can
adjust the time daily (or whenever) with its Ping option.

I checked the option for the clock to be adjusted using the program's
world.com clock every time I logged onto the Internet, but this is not
happening, and I now find in the read-me notes that if Port 13 is
blocked due to a firewall, automatic adjustment will not occur.

Can someone please tell me how to find out if Port 13 is blocked - and
what, in fact, Port 13 is? I only have Windows XP's own firewall - I
have no other installed on my computer.

Thank you for some help.

If instead you use the inbuilt Internet time sync (in Control Panel -
Date and time) , that will work out the extent of the error and adjust
the clock's idea of the interval between timer interrupts until the
clock runs at the right rate. You may want initially to set it to a
more frequent interval between checks (default is a week). Run
regedit..exe, open to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\
W32Time\TimeProviders\NtpClient
and in the right pane d-click SpecialPollInterval and set the desired
value in seconds - eg 86400 for daily.
