clock keeps showing wrong time every time i try to reset it, a message reads.
the time sample was rejected because the peers stratum is less than the
hosts stratum.

many thanks in advance to anyone who can help

I have the same problem and the KB didn't address my problem. The time
service is started and I am not on a LAN, just dialup. I've searched the
KB's for "The time sample was rejected because: The peer's stratum is less
than the host's stratum." and many variations therein, but nothing comes up.
Any help?

Try this server, it fixed the problem for me (a friend of mine says he sees
the error quite often using microsoft's time server):

time-c.timefreq.bldrdoc.gov

Just copy and paste. Should fix the problem. =)

Try going to the Control Panel and clicking on the Date and Time icon.
Go to the Internet Time tab and uncheck the "Automatically
Synchronise..." check box. You may have to restart - I'm not sure.

The messsage? Time services are arranged in various "Strata". The top,
most accurate servers are Stratum 1, most public servers are Stratum
2. For some reason your computer seems to think it is high in the
hierarchy, probably Stratum 1. Since you are standalone, you should
switch off the Internet Time tab. Incidentally this does not usually
cause problems.

Having rechecked your question, I suggest you try Mr Newt's suggestion
before turning off the time service. For some reason I thought that
you were standalone.

Cheers,

Cliff
