My PC clock was about 25 minutes fast at 6:00 pm, now it's 30 minutes fast
again.

Any ideas?

Barring some wild virus/spyware/malware, how old is the CMOS battery?

Wildly fluctuating system times are one of the first signs of a battery
going bad.

My first thought was a virus, but Nod32 came up clean. I run a malware check
daily.

I think the battery is approaching 3 years, so that's a possibility.
although I would have thought it would lose time, as opposed to gaining
time, but it's worth a shot.

Since it's doing more than designed for, do we tend to think just a tad
more of the watch that gains time as compared to one that loses time? s
