Clicking on account icons gets me nowhere-help please!

After months of trouble free use since installing VISTA ULTIMATE, I find that
I get as far as the screen with the three icons for the three accounts we
have set up.

The screen is not frozen - clicking on each icon highlights it BUT it takes
me no further - for example, if I click on the administrators account I am
not even asked for a password. Nothing happens.

Any help gratefully received.
