I click once on the search box in IE, Yahoo, or Canoe etc to activate it
and a second time to get the dropdown list of previous sites in
'search'. I want to delete these site but nothing under tools\internet
options will do that. What is the right way?

Right click - delete?

In your IE, go to Tools/Internet Options then go to Content tab. Click on
AutoComplete then click on ClearForms.

You could also uncheck some of the unwanted options you wish within
AutoComplete settings.

GLuck!
