Clearing Tray Icons

There's one tray icon that I'd like to get rid of, it's the "Safely Remove
Hardware" one that popped-up when I installed a wireless USB adapter. Can
this icon be cleared somehow, and if so, is there another route to get to the
hardware removal utility?

You can hide the icon:

Right-click the Notification area (System Tray) and select Properties.
Under the Notification Area heading, click Customize. Find the Safely
Remove Hardware icon and select "Always Hide" in the Behavior column
next to it. Apply and OK out.

If you need to use it again, you can reverse your changes.

Malke, that works as long as the option to Hide Inactive Icons is selected.
I don't care for the little arrow that lets you bring out the hidden ones, so
I have not had the Hide Inactives checked. I guess that's the only way,
though, trade the Safely Remove Hardware button for the little arrow thing.
Thanks, Jim

I guess. I've never understood why anyone is bothered by that icon, but
whatever floats your boat. It does have its purpose - you don't want to
pull off a peripheral like a thumbdrive that is in the process of being
written to.
