Hi there~

I want to give my friend my old laptop and I want to take my name and
account off Outlook Express for (Barbra) and give them a fresh Outlook
Express so they can set up their own account. What steps do I take to have
Outlook Express ready for a new person to use?

Thank you very much to the community for help with this question.

Remove the account and your name will be removed as a result.

Alias

Below are directions on moving your OE messages.
After moving the messages, delete the files from the old laptop.
Tools, Accounts, Mail tab, highlight your account, export.
This will save your account settings.
Remove the account leaving no accounts listed.
On the new computer, Tools, Accounts, Mail tab, Import.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of
your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder
location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then Start | Run | Ctrl+V will put the
location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise, write
the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer.

In WindowsXP, 2K & 3K, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked
as hidden. To view these files in Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden
Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options | View.

Move the files to a new folder on the new computer.
Open OE, File, Import, File| Import| Messages| OE6| Message store
directory, then browse to the new folder.

I forgot the Address Book.
Delete all of the entries in the Address Book.

Why not just delete your user account from Windows and make sure all your
data files are gone as well? You can create a new user account for her
before you give her the laptop, if you want.

To protect your personal information and data from any future users
of average skills, you should, at the very least, format the hard drive
and reinstall only the OS and those applications whose licenses are to
be included in the sale/transfer. If you wish to do a more thorough job
of protecting your personal data, WipeDrive 2.2.1
(http://www.accessdata.com/Product07_Overview.htm?ProductNum=07) meets
U.S. DoD standards for securely cleaning surplus unclassified hard
drives, and could be used before formatting and reinstalling the OS and
applications.

The OE newsgroup might be better eg microsoft.public.outlookexpress.general.

But this specifically says "Your Accounts, Address Book, Signatures, and Message Rules will still be there (another benefit over reinstalling the whole program)."

The introduction for this fix is when the program is not working properly and to avoid reinstalling.

I would have thought that you want to simply remove your accounts in Tools/Accounts.

And delete all emails, of course (including Empty the Deleted folder)

You also want to delete all web addresses from Favourites - these might link to private or personal websites.

You, of course, want to delete all files/folders from My Documents. I believe that some of these folders are provided with the machine eg My Pictures, My Videos etc.

Well, this link tell you the different locations where things are stored, so
he can delete them instead of just moving and renaming.
