I have a windows xp sp2 system

I just used cleanup 3.0. During the process a warning screen came up a
file check security window of some sort saying that some windows files
have been changed and need to be put back to the priginal status. The
window asked me to put in my windoze sp2 cd-rom..Well we dont have one
it has been lost.

I rebooted into safe mode thinking i should go into the system restore
function and do a restore. Well the START icon is gone the one in the
lower ledt hand corner which means I cant get into the assesories
folder which has the system tools which has te system restore function.

Can someone here help me in finding out how to do this...I also cannot
access my control panel......

Thanks..

Rich

Does Win+R (hold down WINDOWS key and press R) bring up the 'RUN' dialog
box ? If it does, then navigate to your windows\system\restore folder and
double click on rstrui.exe to run system restore.

I have had good results using this way or Safe Mode, different to Last
Known Good Configuration in Safe Mode.

System Restore is accessed the following way:

1. It's a good practice to shut down all other applications before
using System Restore, as it requires a full-system reboot to complete
the installation. Connecting to the internet is not required, however.
So shut all applications. Then click "Start."

2. Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.
Then the program will load.
Here's a screen shot of the program-entry screen:

Or,

If System Restore doesn't work in Normal Mode, it might work in Safe
Mode.
Toggle F8 or Press Ctrl ( depends on your comp ) during bootup ( just
before, verifying DMI pool, message comes on )
Select Safe Mode.
