I've tried the new CleanUp and it messed up my machine. I finally was
able to do a restore and corrected the problem. I had no problems with
previous versions of this program. I worked throughly and did a nice
job cleaning up things. However I will not touch it again, not after
what happened..

Is there a program that is as good or even better then CleanUp.

Crap Cleaner from www.ccleaner.com seems to do a great job without problems

Would you tell us how cleanup! 4.0 messed up your machine. I use the
same program and would like to know what to look for.

About 30 minutes ago I finished reinstalling all of my software on my
machine and ran CCleaner (www.ccleaner.com). I pressed the button to OK
the cleanup and CCleaner went to work. I suddenly got a sick feeling in
my stomach as all those files and all those registry entires
disappeared, even the ones from MS Office, Active X and AVG AntiVirus.

I restarted the computer and examined all the software that worried me.
Everything works perfectly.

I wasn't so lucky. CCleaner suggested removing several file
association entries in the registry and I said yes.

Turns out that CCleaner removed the association for .REG so now I
couldn't take the CCleaner backup file (which is a .REG file) and
execute it to have its contents restored to the registry!

It took quite some fiddling to work around this and get the .REG
association back and, to be safe, to restore the other "unused"
associations CCleaner had removed.

I think it is still agood product but it's not safe enough as a
registry cleaner and probably best not used for that purpose.
