Cleaning up excess printer icons...

I'm using WinXP-pro PC, on a very small network. There are 2 printers, a
small color one and a laser.

When I print anything, the print window of course pops up with the default
printer and a drop down if you want to change printers.

In the drop down list which is growing longer, I wonder if someone could
offer insights into two printers I noticed that I may want to remove, in the
interest of reducing clutter:

-1) Auto HP LaserJet on JOE-----The PC seems to think this printer is
attached to Joe's PC, probably because Joe has a driver for it. But it's
really the laserjet that is on the ethernet network, nothing is on Joe's
parallel port. If on MY computer, I go in Control Panel > Printers, and
delete the icon, any consequences? It says "Auto" (I didn't put that in
there)...will it reincarnate itself again?

-2) Microsoft Office Document Image Writer-----How'd this get here, was it
MS Office 2003 I just installed? Do I really need it? I do use the MS
scanning software and some other imaging tools. If on my computer, I go in
Control Panel > Printers, and delete the icon, any consequences? Would it
regenerate itself if some program does need it in the future?

Thanks

Joe must be sharing the printer out from his machine, otherwise your system
would have never picked up the 'auto' printer. However, you can delete it
without consiquence. I'm unsure if it will re-appear or not later on down
the road.

As far as the Document Image Writer, yes, it's part of Office 2003. I'm
sure you could delete it if you really find it that annoying, but I'd just
leave it, it's not harming anything and later on you may find a use for it.
It allows you to 'print' the document to a file and then share it with other
Office 2003 users without them being able to modify it (kinda like an adobe
acrobat file).
