If you have a retail license for WinXP, yes, you'll need to
activate after re0intalling the OS. The OS will let you know, with
frequent (several times a day) reminders, if you do need to activate.
To check for yourself, Start > All Programs > Accessories > System
Tools > Activate Windows. Alternatively, Start > Run >
"C:\Windows\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /A."

If you have an OEM license that uses a BIOS-locked installation or
Recovery CD, activation may not be necessary, as you're using a CD
that can only be used on the system with which it was purchased.
Again, to check for yourself, Start > All Programs > Accessories >
System Tools > Activate Windows. Alternatively, Start > Run >
"C:\Windows\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /A." It will probably tell you
that WinXP has already been activated.

Yes. A clean install puts things back in the original state - not
activated *on the machine*. So at some convenient time in the 30 days,
get on the net, go to
Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Activate Windows
and use Activate on the Internet. Don't bother with the registration
details. It will take about 20 seconds
