Here are the specs:
ASUS A7N8X-X NFORCE 8X AUD/LAN
AMD XP 3000+ CPU OEM
radeon 9800 xt
1 gig of 3200 ddr ram
western digital 250 gb hard drive.

I try to do a clean install of windows xp corp edition
with the sp1 update. This is a bootable copy.

It will start to go through the setup, get to the screen
where it will go through all the drivers being installed,
then will say "setup is starting windows" and it will
stop, each time. I have tried using an older video card,
and checking the bios settings, but don't know what to do
in this situation. The bios does recognize the hard
drive, and I am not using an ata controller.

When I tried to isntall an older version of win 98 to see
if the components were working, it installed fine but
wouldn't install since it was an old copy, at least five
years.

Switch out memory.

| Switch out memory.

Shenan is absolutely right. There is some hardware bug in your system
DeeJay. First change the memory. Listen to my story:
A few years ago I had this problem: When I plugged in Cannon BJC-1000
printer into my PC it started to become unstable (blue screens etc.)
Obviously the problem was in the printer. But after a month of experiments
with different printers it become clear that the problem was somewhere else.
Guess what? The problem was in buggy memory chip! Unbelievable! I changed
the memory and the printer problems was gone!

Try to locate the hardware bug. Also disable in BIOS all built in features:
sound, LAN, RAID, modem ... etc. AND disable USB ports. Try to install XP.
If the problem is still there - change the memory, go to church and
reinstall ;-))))

Regards

Hi there,
Got the same prob with almost same config(9800pro).
works fine under 98, but I get that blue screen during
XP's installation (tech info: STOP: 0x0000007B
(0x7C8263C,...)

have you sorted your problem yet or are you still pending.

and what does "switch out memory" means? change the
sockets, replace them...?
and by the way, I also tried with 1x256 (PC2100) and still
wont work.
anybody around to help out

Deejay, if you've got a 3.5" floppy on you systems, go to www.mushkin.com
and download a copy of memtest 3.0. It's free. You can boot from the floppy
and it will do a thorough test of your memory. If you've got memory
problems, it probably will catch them.

If you have problems, you're going to have to replace the bad memory module.

I also have the Asus A7N8X Deluxe, one of the early
revisions that doesn't have the option for a 400Mhz FSB. I
have been running XP Pro on it for almost a year and still
have a working installation which I am currently using to
access this forum. When I try to reinstall or do a clean
install, I get the same freeze. I have tested my memory
and found it to function properly.
