Greetings,

I am replacing an old P-133 that was bought with 95 pre-installed.
I have the OEM supplied Win95 CD. I subsequently upgraded it from WIn
95 to 98SE via an upgrade CD, which I still have. Can I legally (and
functionally) purchase an XP upgrade CD, and do a clean install on my
"new" machine (dual xeon 550s)?

Thanks,
DP

Dell;
Yes, as long as the Windows 98SE is retail and no longer installed on
the P-133.

Yes, but.

If you want both processors recognized, you'd better get XP Pro.

SO, I can infer from your reply that XPHome DOES NOT support dual processors?

Thanks for the info. So I'm back to ~$200 if I want to run XP. Or, I
can run 98SE with dual procs (?98SE will won't it?), or XP Home with
one. Or 2000 with two, but not much compatibility with the kids
games. Crap.

Win 98SE does not support dual processors. It's 2000 or XP.

Jupiter Jones,

OK, clarification/refinement:
OEM Win 95 -> Retail 98SE upgrade -> Retail Win XP Pro Upgrade?

And no, if I was gonna keep 98 on the 133, I'd also not need to buy XP
:-). Made a decison long ago to buy software that I use. I'm almost
ashamed to say I own a paid copy of PKZip . . .

Thanks,
DP
