When using disk clean up is it recommended to delete
compressed old files? Can it do any harm? What exactly
are compressed old files? The name might explain it all
but I am still uncertain.

Thanks

You arte misreading it.
You are not deleting compressed old files.
You are compressing old files that have not been recently used.
The old files are still there, but they are compressed after the
operation is complete.

After you run clean disk there is a compress old file
within the list. If you put a check in the box you will
delete the files. Is it harmful to delete those files.
And what exactly are those files (def)? You can delete
them if you want. I don't think I am misreading that.

Placing a check in that box does not delete those files.
Placing a check in the box tells Windows to Compress Old Files to save
space.
The files are still there...now they are compressed.

It should be safe to compress files however there have been issues in
the past so I never use that feature.
