clean desktop in display properties

after opening display properties then clicking on desk
top i find a huge list of pictures that i've used as
backgrounds.some i got of the net others of my computer
{camera}.really no big deal but how can i get rid of some
of them to shorten this list i just like to clean up .
can't find a way to do it .hopefully there is someone
thats smarter than me!!! thanks {oh by the way, some of
them showed up by themselves i'm pretty sure that i never
tranfered them there.whats up with that??}
 
Windows XP fetches the image files from the following paths:

BMP Files from %Systemroot% (Windows folder)

BMP, JPG, GIF, JPE, DIB, PNG, HTM files from the following locations:
%Systemroot%\Web\Wallpaper
%USERPROFILE%\My Documents\My Pictures
%AppData%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
%Programfiles%\Plus!\Themes

If you want to clear a file from that list, move the file away from the above locations. Type each of the above paths in RUN dialog.
