Using VS 2003, VB.net, MSDE...

I opened up a large class to see the following on my screen:
]¢£:$W¸
º¾~'ï¢Û½©,Ö·¥f¿í$bön#
i¥k<~I1Í'Ñ
¢Vôú?¨iâ*Z:QdÝsØô²iOOÑ.f±ÁaQ@ç,>]¦Në
®¬Q{>\#·5²W?¤G?T^ÂiÝ{ú6¾ès¶ëPT6Ô«qí-å%
nE>aÌ .;îº"îÎÈ¿Kõ J'u%T.¸'+MmNð!û#É]¦µÉlüS^
ÿb Ëè%Ú¥ .\Ûiv/ (and lots more of this stuff).

Needless to say, the file is destroyed. And, unfortunately, my daily backup
is the same (so I will loose a few days work going to an older backup). Any
ideas what happened? Any way to recover? After seeing above, I ran check
disk, and it did find some erros, but none in this folder. This is really
scary. This class is on my laptop, so no one else had access to it, and
nothing has happened since I last worked on it yesterday.

Please advise.

What OS are you running? Is your disk formatted as NTFS? I think finding
errors anywhere on your disk would be cause for concern.

What is displayed if you open the file in Notepad? Could your culture
settings in Windows have been changed somehow to a different language?

To send me an E-mail, remove the "[", "]", underscores ,lunchmeat, and
replace certain words in my E-Mail address.

I am running Windows XP and NTFS hard drive (I have run check disk to clean
up existing problems).

Since other vb.net .vb files display properly, I don't think it could be
any settings in Windows concerning language. Additionally, it looks like
the folling when opened with NotePad:
????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
?????????????????*??????????????????

Thanks!

Bob
