Hi, I've got a new laptop with XP Professional on it and
everything is running fine except for one thing: For
several days now there is this process cidaemon.exe that
keeps on running and running and running all day long,
keeping the harddisk busy almost 2/3 of the time and
using up to 80-90% of the CPU capacity. It looks like it
is some kind of a windows process, but what is it doing
and how can I limit it or shut it off? It's annoying,
because it is slowing everything else down and it uses up
valuable battery power.
Any idea or hint?

You can go into the services and turn indexing off .
