The drive activity light seems to be on all the time. I understand that XP
will do background defrag and other maintenance but the drive activity
should not be constant??

I have swept for Trojans and virus and I come back clean.

TIA

Look at turning off "indexing" service. This is supposed to "speed" up
searches but I seen it always updating.

How much RAM does this PC have? If you have less than 256 MB (yes, XP works
with 128 MB), this may cause a lot more of the RAM being dumped to "virtual
memory."

Someone must have input?

Well, do you have plenty of RAM?
Do you have a disk interpreter or manager installed?
Do a CTRL-ALT-DEL and look for a busy process using lots of CPU time.
If you find nothing out of ordinary then you probably have a circuit
problem with the motherboard or hard drive.

Here's some input.

I have no idea what the hell you are you talking about.
It could be indexing. Do you have that running? Check your services and
click on your main drive, r-click/properties and under the "General" tab
is "Allow indexing Service to index this disk..." checked? If so, that
could be the issue since Windoze uses idle time to index your files. If
you don't understand that process, do a Google search.

Have you tried opening the task manager to see which if any processes
are active on the computer or taking up cpu cycles? Also, try disabling
the indexing service and see if this reduces or removes you disk activity.
