How do I get chkdsk to run when I boot up? I am having alot of "write delay
failed" errors and I think it may be due to something chkdsk can repair. Any
other suggestions as to what they can be also welcome. Thanks

Click Start -> Run -> chkdsk /f -> OK
It will schedule a chkdsk on the next boot.

Windows delayed write failed:
If it's a USB drive, try rebooting.
If it's an IDE drive, it may be failing.

The "Enable write caching on the disk" feature for your disk is turned on.
Your Ultra Direct Memory Access (UDMA) hard disk controller is configured in either of the
following ways:
You are using a 40-wire connector cable to connect the UDMA drive to the controller instead of
the required 80-wire, 40-pin cable. Your BIOS settings are configured to force faster UDMA
modes.

Also, try this:
Right click my computer , properties, Advanced, Performance section, "Settings" button ,
Advanced, Memory Usage, "Adjust for best performance of ..." Make sure "Programs" is checked...

Hi
Not sure how to run CHKDSK on boot up, but you can force SCANDISK to
run at start-up if you tick both 'Automatically fix file system
errors' & 'Scan and attempt to recover bad sectors' from the options.
IMHO Scandisk is not as powerful as CHKDSK, but it can fix most
problems.

Hope this helps

Windows XP does not have scandisk.exe.

Error Checking is chkdsk.exe.

You can't "force SCANDISK to run," at startup or at any other time, because
Scandisk doesn't exist in Windows XP. Scandsk is a Windows 9x utility; the
Windows NT/2000/XP rough equivalent is called CHKDSK

Hi Frank,

Basically sfc.exe replaces bad system files. And basically chkdsk.exe
checks hard drives for physical problems.

[[System File Checker scans all protected files to verify their versions. If
System File Checker discovers that a protected file has been overwritten, it
retrieves the correct version of the file from the cache folder
(%Systemroot%\System32\Dllcache) or the Windows installation source files,
and then replaces the incorrect file. ]]

Those errors could also be an indicator of problems with the drive
itself rather than with the data structure.

Go to the hard drive manufacturer's web site, download their free
diagnostic utility, and run it to check out the drive. Take immediate
action to replace the drive if the diagnostic reports problems that
are not repairable.

Good luck

Try opening the tools option on the properties of the drive (right-click
the drive letter and select tools/error-checking). If you check the
box marked 'automatically fix errors', it will tell you that it will be
run on re-boot. It will just run once, the next time you re-boot (you
get a warning prompt on re-boot and you can bypass by pressing a key
before chkdsk starts.

Why should I? I am not the one with the problem.
