I searched but didn't find a similar problem posted. XP
Home, Dell 8200 - Upon rebooting, chkdsk/f gets 55%
through the first step then reboots the computer. It
never gets past there and the only way to boot the OS is
to hit a key and bypass the chkdsk at startup. It's
stuck in a loop.

You didn't state any system messages you got, but I bet one of them
had something to do with a Norton Disk Doctor or chkdsk report of bad
"security descriptors", and you probably were trying to check an NTFS
volume.

You may find this discussion helpful:

Somewhere in there you may find your particular variant of this
problem. This seems to be a problem involving an incompatibility
between chkdsk (which is actually what NDD is running for you) and
NTFS, not anything specific to Dell machines.

Good luck!
