Hi WinGuy,

I tried your suggestions and had no luck. No error messages showed up,
things ran smoothly and the reboot was fine. Not sure what to do now.

Do you have ZoneAlarm installed and did you recently upgrade it to
version 5.0? It has been reported that ZoneAlarm 5.0 may be the root cause
of your problem. Uninstalling ZoneAlarm Version 5.0 solves the issue.

Go to Start > Run and type: CMD , and hit enter. Then type in:
chkntfs /x c: , and hit enter. Reboot your computer.

Thanks for the reply Carey. I had NIS 2004 installed and I just wanted to
see if deleting that would help. Everything works fine again without
Norton. Now I do have Zone Alarm IS installed and have no further problems.
All is working fine now. I did clear all of the Norton and Symantec entries
in the registry and did a chkdsk and defrag before installing Zone Alarm. I
never had issues with Norton before, but I guess there is always a first.
Thanks to all who replied, I am a happy camper again.

Robert,

The gist of Carey's post was to remove ZA version 5 - not Norton. ZA
has been having many problems reported with this newest release and the
consensus is to remove it and reinstall a 4.5 version. You need your
a/v and while Norton has had it's problems, in this case it isn't
Norton's fault.
