Chkdsk will not run for me currently. I have completely checked all
hardware and made sure all windows updates have been installed. Antivirus
updated too. Spyware updates completed and all is showing clean. I tried
to have windows do a boot chkdsk and it never starts. When I go to admin
tools and right click the C: drive to select for chkdsk to run with the next
reboot nothing happens during the next reboot.

Any ideas?

Do you have Zone Alarm version 5 installed?

Boot from any CD of the same type (XP Home, XP Pro) and go into the Recovery
Console from there. Use only the same type for the CD. Chkdsk should run,
since it's loaded from the CD and not from a possibly corrupted one on the
HDD. If that works, then afterwards from a dosbox (Start | Run | cmd) do
this:
sfc /scannow

and when that finishes, do this:

sfc /purgecache

Did that fix things for you?
