Chkdsk will not 'fix' problems from the command prompt if the drive is in
use. It will do a standard scan, but is unable to fix anything because the
drive is in use. You should get a message asking if you want to schedule a
scan the next time you reboot. If you get this message, then schedule for
the next reboot. When you reboot yuor machine chkdsk will immediately start
to scan your system
