When I boot my computer, it wants to run check disk on a hard drive I have
on the system - not the "C" drive. Every time I reboot. I'm running XP
Pro. How can I stop this?

Thanks much.

See Kelly's site:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm
Click on "C" and scroll to "Check Disk - Disk Checking Runs Upon Boot"

One thing to do is download a drive diagnostic utility from the the hard
drive manufacturer's web site. That will create a bootable floppy or CD.
Boot from that run the diagnostics on the drive.

P.S. - you don't have an HP scanner do you?

Yes, I sure do have an HP scanner - that doesn't work! Some of the work I'm
currently doing
is with the HP people to try to remove all of the existing HP software so I
can re-install from disk. I'm having fits getting that done. They don't
have a good 'Remove' or uninstall program. Arghhh!

Thanks much for your help.

The disk is not 'dirty'.

Line 294 is the appropriate one. I've found the referenced entry in the
registers but don't know what to put in. The fix calls for
"BootExecute"=hex(7):00,00If you could spell out what that entry should look

Reason I asked is because one MS article made reference to that with a
particular fix for it.

If Kelly's doesn't fix it, google it on google groups to find the HP fix.

Double click bootexe.reg and click YES to the prompt. Or right click
bootexe.reg, click MERGE and click YES to the prompt.

Either way will set BootExecute to hex(7):00,00

IF you have Norton Disk Doc, you can (accidently) set a pref in there to
force the chkdsk every boot. Just an idea...
