Hello ...

I have recently added another hard drive, and I know this is probably a very
stupid question, but, how do I perform a CHKDSK on the new drive?

I've tried going to "START", "My Computer", then "Properties" and "Tools",
starting it up from there, but it does not respond.

When I try to go to the "RUN" and enter "F: (not sure if \ or/ right now),
then enter CHKDSK, but I get error messages

Can anyone assist me with this ???.

Thanks for your help.

In the RUN box type cmd and press enter. At the Command Prompt issue
the following command:

chkdsk /?

a help screen will open give you the information that you need.

'another hard disk' - is it new or just another one. In any case you should go
to settings/controlpanel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management/Disk
Management to see if the disk is there and in what condition. Does it have a
letter attached like F: and when you right click to get more information dos it
give the size and indeed is it formatted.
You of course have to have admistrator priveledges so ctlr,Alt,Del will get you
to chose the correct User priveledges.

John and resredep ...

Thanks for your reply and directions
..
I have been using the F: drive for a long time .. it is internal drive.
..
I had thought it was about time to do the chkdsk on it and speed up the pc
overall
..
When I try to use some features, I get the DOS screen ... and I hate to
admit it, but I have always been afraid of anything that involves the DOS or
the Registry.
