I've read the odd articel on chkdsk saying if your have a rpoblem dont use
it

my partition now passes all 5 stages of chkdsk ok after a few "fixes" -
NTFS by the way

i'd like to think that everything is now ok ?

any advice / pointers appreciated

ideally if there was another prog to run that says - dat ok would be great

thanks

Chkdsk with repair qualifiers has some risk associated with it. To fix
the inconsistencies it may remove data ( Personal or System). I've had
a few cases where a Chkdsk /F (/P Recovery Console) fixed the faults,
but removed data. I wouldn't run a full Chkdsk on a volume unless the
Read-Only or cursory mode indicated a /F is required. If you need to
do a repair, I'd take a partition Image before starting up the Chkdsk.

Always have a full and complete backup of your data. Chkdsk can resolve
issues but it can also result in data loss and it gives no record of
what it really did. So the most important point is having a backup of
irreplaceable data. Chkdsk does not need to be run on a regular basis.
Only if a problem is indicated.
