chkdsk /f does not fix errors that are seen in read-only mode

When I run chkdsk in read-only mode it tells me that I
have errors in the volume bitmap. I then run it with
the /f parameter. It says that everything is OK, but
after rebooting and running in read-only mode again, the
volume bitmap error appears again. What is wrong?

Boot off of CD and into recovery console (R for repair and C for console
after the CD boots) and then run chkdsk /r to repair the volume, that
should help.

I would like to create an icon for my destop to run chkdsk. I was able to
create a shortcut from chkdk.exe found in System32 but I would like to add a
paramter to not only run but cause it to fix any errors as well. How can I
do this?

Thanks!

Johnny

I would still like to know how to do this,....Please.

Same here. Even AFTER running CHKDSK from Recovery Console, I always get
errors in the volume bitmap. I also run from a Command Prompt with /F and
reboot, letting CHKDSK run after the reboot but after CHKDSK finishes and
the machine restarts, I still get the error in volume bitmap. 8-( Any
other ideas?

R-click your shortcut, Properties, and in the Target add /f at the end.
But this will want to lock the drive, find it can't and then ask again
if you want to run at next boot. You can supply *one* of those yesses
by making it /f <Y
but I don't know about getting two answers in a simple way

BTW you might do better for answers if you set up Outlook Express to
have a News account pointed at msnews.microsoft.com rather than use the
web interface. You had an answer some time back, but from someone whose
posts do not manage to get seen by the web interface
