I have Windows XP with MS Office 2003.

I have been given a word document that is 36 pages. There is one page break
in this document starting on page 30. Therefore pages after 30 to show 1 -
6. However what is happening is that all pages in the footer area are being
shown as 壱拾 (each page has a slight variant of the symbols) instead of the
actual page number. I have tried deleting and inserting a new page which
works for the page I insert the footer into but corresponding footers for
that section show chinese symbols.
Any ideas as to why these chinese symbols are

Yes I have checked the font and it is set correctly to Arial 12. I have also
noticed in this document in the status bar which shows the Page number you
are viewing also shows the same symbol...curiouser and curioser!

Thanks JoAnn but any other ideas greatfully received.
