Anyone got any experience of this keyboard? It looks pretty good in the pics but i ain't seen one in the flesh - interested to know views, especially thoughts on how useful the buttons on the left and right edges are. Do they add anything really useful? (TIA):)

nah never ehard of the company

wats ur price limit?
can it be a wireless keyboard?

Cherry always made cheap and cheerful keyboards several years ago, always in the 'budget' range.

But I've no experience of their products and don't know what they're like now.

Gotta say, from that pic, it looks good.

It's under £30 and from Scan where i can just pop in a collect. They also do a 'solar' powered wireless version with a mouse that's about twice the price - but I aint into wireless stuff (except for my Logitech MX1000). I always used to have the cheap Cherry boards for budget systems, but this looks like they're moving up in the world.:)

Looks good, I must say! Don't think you'd get many other good keyboards for that price - except maybe one of the cheap MS ones.

If i can get one from Scan today, i will - I'm going to pick upa new vid cooler. If I get one i'll put a quick review togethe.

Hmmm, cheap and cheerful, maybe? ... but I still insist on having one for myself. Logitech/Genius makes 'cheap-n-cheerful' keyboards. :p

Cherry have been around from day one in computing, German Company, highly respected in the industry.

This is the one I use, and have used for several years ... http://www.cherrycorp.com/english/classic-line/keyboard-standard-g83-6000.htmhttp://www.cherrycorp.com/english/classic-line/keyboard-standard-g83-6000.htmCherry Classic 6000M the only keyboard I've found with no stupid extra buttons. :D

Looks good Mucks, but I only saying what I seen ;)

Next time keyboard replacement comes around, I may have to consider one of those.

By the way, if you misplace it, is that known as losing your cherry? :D

I love you ... really I do ;-)

:D Only to a female user ...

They really are an honest, reliable, "plain and simple" (yep, just like me) Keyboard ... though I may get the USB built-in 4 port hub version next time ... the exterior looks exactly the same.

I use to buy these by the box load ... 10 in a box @ £15 each ... no 'confused customers' on the phone about "those extra buttons" ... oh, and they "shower-up" very nicely. ;)

LOl - I'm afraid they're right about that keyboard m8...sucks bigtime! Maplin are good for some things but they do stock so overpriced crap kit in the peripheral range. Personally, i'd keep well away from wireless and keyboard/mouse sets too...u always end up compromising on one or the other and spending a fortune on batteries. (Apart from the MX1000 mouse which is superb in every way)

I actually bought one of the Cherry Cymaster keyboards today (as mentioned in my earlier post). reasonable price at £26 but i was disappointed. Quick summary:

Quite large, USB (with a PS/2 adaptor), detachable wrist rest, nice key layout and all the useful extra buttons that Mucks hates (media, web etc)...BUT...

Build quality is not up to the standard the pictures suggest - don't get me wrong, it's quite a solid board and it stays put even when typing frantically, however, the key response is poor - very loud but not really 'clicky' - in fact quite spongey. A combination of loud sponginess that suggests cheapo build.
Another problem was that the print on the keys is very grey - proving difficult to see in dim light conditions (I hate bright light at my pc).

The additional function buttons on the left and right edges do look useful (can be configured to cut and paste and other normal ctrl+ hotkeys, and I'm sure they would be useful in games). But if you're used to caps lock, left shift and tab being in that position, then they may take a little getting used to.

I'm a stickler for good build and key response that is just spongey enough but a little 'clicky' - without being loud. I also (unlike Mucks) like extra keys for media control.

I'm typing this on a Saitek Gamers PC, that has everything just about right - but my other favourite for the very reasonable price of under £18 is the Logitech Media Keyboard - phenomenal functionality and quality for that price.

Perhaps I should have put a proper review together with piccys...sorry:(

I think we just want to stop you making the same mistake I just did - buying a keyboard that is going straight into the draw...

I have had three top of the range logitech and Microsoft wireless and bluetooth desktop combos at work and dumped them all...too much hassle with recharging and batteries etc, and they cost a fortune, but they are still considered the best wireless setups...if you look for much cheaper wireless you will end up paying out a fortune in the long run.

A cordless mouse like the Logitech MX1000 is worth every penny...but a cordless keyboard always seems a pointless to me - a mouse moves a hell of a lot, but you want a keyboard to stay put most of the time.

Save up for a mouse and keyboard - then just spend it all on the MX1000 mouse...I guarantee you'll feel much better for it m8;)

Got it in one 1nt' ... I spent £40 on the MX600 and £15 on a keyboard ... spend 70% of my time typing, 25% on mousing & 5% picking my nose.
I really don't know what all them there fancy extra keys do ... but I would be lost without the 'Win Key' ... :D

Good for you - I'm just too cheap to want to buy batteries every few months and too lazy to change 'em! But then again I've always been wierd:eek:

In chez flops:

2 x Logi MX1000 meeces - best mouse ever.

2 x Logi wired keyboards - not saying they're the best, but, imo, they're good.

And a Belkin KVM.

I'm happy with these things.

Once bought an el cheapo keyboard/mouse setup from computer fair for £12.00 - they went in the dustbin in less than a week.

Just trying to help here, not brag.

You only get what you pay for. Truth.
