chemical symbols

Hi

I am trying to find out how to insert a chemical symbol which is CO2. I want the 2 to be smaller as in everyday life. I have checked insert symbol but could not find it. Can anyone hel

CTRL+SHIFT and Plus Key to toggle superscript then type the 2. Next
CTRL+SHIFT+ Plus Key again to toggle back.
 
If you use a lot of superscript and subscript fonts for various chemical
equations, you might find it easier to add the icons to your Formatting
Toolbar. If so, right-click the Toolbar area, select "Customize". Click
the "Commands" TAB. Click the "Format" category, then scroll down until you
see the icons for Subscript and Superscript. Click each one and drag it up
to an area on your Formatting toolbar (I put it next to the "U" (underline)
icon. Repeat for the other icon.

They will now be there for you on this computer forever. Then all you have
to do is to toggle it on and off as needed.

Select the 2 and press Ctrl+= (subscript). Then take Bill's advice.
