If this is the first time you have run CHKDSK since installing Zone Alarm 5
that is where your problem comes from. Go to the FAQs at the ZA site and
follow the instructions to uninstall ZA5 and replace with ZA 4.5. There are
other possible causes but ZA5 is flavour of the month !

I'm so totally depressed about this!! I did a clean uninstall of Zone Alarm
5 and did a clean install of Zone Alarm 4.5. I thought that solved the
problem but when I tried to do chkdsk today for the first time after
reinstalling ver 4.5, I am getting the same error message. Chkdsk worked
just fine until I installed Zone Alarm 5.

Each time I start the computer, it tries to run chkdsk. Is there some way I
can get it to stop trying to run chkdsk? I tried to restore my system to an
earlier date, but I doesn't work because the computer keeps trying to run
chkdsk.

I guess there is no fix for this problem and I will probably have to live
with it, no thanks to Zone Alarm.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!!

I've heard that's a common bug with the new release of ZA. They
recommend that you drop back to the 4.5 version until they fix it.

Lose ZA entirely then. Try a different free firewall. I use Kerio PF on
several different machines and have never had a problem with it.

Or, go back to the earlier version of ZA. The people at ZoneLabs are
aware of the problem and a fix is expected shortly.

Hi Sam,

I wrote in my original post (see below) that I did go back to the earlier
version (4.5) and I am still having the problem with chkdsk.

Do yo have any other suggestions?

Thanks!!

You may need to do a "Clean" uninstall, since not every piece of the
old system is deleted normally. Try:
"C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninst.exe" /clean

Then try reinstalling 4.5. After that, you'll need to put in your
license code again and if you didn't export your settings, you'll need
to start from scratch.
