Can CheckDisk and Defragmentation de done in safe mode?

If yes, it is better to perform them in safe mode since minimum programs are
being loaded in safe mode?

Thanks,
Ben

For Defragmentation : Yes
For CHKDSK /F : CHKDSK /f will not run if someone is using the disk
so it doesn't matter

Defrag can be run in Safe Mode but, unlike Win9x/ME, it is not usually
necessary to run it in Safe Mode in XP. If you want to run it in normal
mode just shut down all other running programs.

Chkdsk doesn't run from within the operating system so no, it doesn't
run in Safe or regular mode. Here is a link explaining more about
Chkdsk:

With regard chkdsk that only applies to the partition containing
the operating system, normally C when usually a prompt asks
whether you wish to perform the task on the next reboot.
