Check if another application is running?

Is there a way of checking whether another non-MS application is actually
running before calling it?
I have looked at GetObject etc but this seems only for MS apps.
I would like to test if open before sending Call / Shell to the app.

If you know the Class Name of the window for the application, you can use
the code in http://www.mvps.org/access/api/api0007.htm at "The Access Web"
to determine whether or not it's running.

The code in http://www.mvps.org/access/api/api0013.htm will help you
determine the Class Name.
