The problem I have with check disk is that it runs behind a black screen. It
sems to take the right amount of time(20 min.) Any ideas why this happens?

To get the GUI interface for chkdsk, you use the gui 'Error Checking'
interface instead of the command line.

My Computer, rightclick the drive icon, Properties, Tools menu, error checking

Chkdsk.exe runs in the emulation of the DOS Mode, thus the black
background. Run Chkdsk from the Command Prompt, NOT from
Start>Run so you can see the results. When it finishes, just type
EXIT>press Enter to return to Windows.

Run the procedure Mark recommended only if your have Bad Sectors.
Otherwise you can go eat dinner and take a shower while it runs Phase 4.

I think I did a poor job with my question. Let me try again. When running
check disk in the past I would restart my computer , a blue screen would come
on saying I had so many seconds to stop a check disk, hit any key to
cancel. If I hit no keys then check disk would run with a blue screen showing
the stages and progress. Now it runs behind a black screen.?
