Check Disk...No report?

I just ran XP'a check disk utility and clicked the box that has it
"scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors". When it was finished,
it simply said "scan completed". I got no report about the presence of
absence of bad sectors. Is this normal? If there were bad sectors on
the disk, would I have been alerted?

Open EventViewer: Start>Run eventvwr.msc [enter] and click on
"Application". In the "Source" column, look for the "Winlogon" item.
Double-click it and you should see the results of your Chkdsk.

Thanks Malke. There was no "Winlogon" item anywhere in the source
column. Does this mean no bad sectors?

I wouldn't take that as gospel. To make sure your hard drive is healthy,
it is always better to use a diagnostic utility downloaded from the
drive mftr.'s website. You'll make a bootable floppy or cd with the
file you downloaded. Boot with whichever one you made (you may need to
change the boot order in the BIOS) and do a thorough test. If any
physical tests fail, back up your data (which you should be doing in
any case) and replace the hard drive.
