Sandra

Being a computer novice I'm hoping someone can help me
with my problem.

When typing in Microsoft Works Word Processor the letters
are "compressed" and unlegible. It doesn't matter which
font I choose and I don't seem to have any way to change
the "character spacing only the "line spacing."

I sincerely hope you can help with this problem, it would
be greatly appreciated!

Sandra, while Works is not actually a part of Windows XP,
I found your question so intriguing that I researched it
in Word, which is what I have on my computer.

Here is what I found in Word Help. I hope it is the same
for your word processor:

Change the spacing between characters
Select the text you want to change.

On the Format menu, click Font, and then click the
Character Spacing tab.

Do one of the following:
To expand or condense space evenly between all the
selected characters, click Expanded or Condensed in the
Spacing box, and then specify how much space you want in
the By box.

To kern characters that are above a particular point size,
select the Kerning for fonts check box, and then enter the
point size in the Points and above box.

Note: Selecting Expanded or Condensed alters the spacing
between all selected letters by the same amount. Kerning
alters the spacing between particular pairs of letters.

Sue, thanks for trying to help. You are greatly
appreciated! But there is one problem .....when going into
the format menu then font, there is no "character spacing
tab." Do you have any other ideas, or suggest whom I
could contact for help?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Not being familar with Works, I would suggest visiting the Works newsgroup.
Someone there should be able to help you: microsoft.public.works.win
