Is there a way to change XP's default My Documents directory a folder
somewhare else, such as the D:Drive?

Thanks,

Hi Doug,

Thanks for the quick response. The change you refered to is one that I
always do when reinstalling or setting up a new PC :- )

I guess I probably should've been a little more clear... even now I probably
can't be very specific. But it seems that in many occasions, either when
saving a file I've created, or downloading something from the internet, the
default directory to save in is "C:\Documents and Settings\David\My
Documents". That's the default I would like to change and point to
something like D:\My Documents.

BTW... I was actually browsing your web site now for this very question...
Only two articles came up with my search criteria, neither of which were
relevent. Nonetheless, I really do enjoy your site, it's extremely usefull!

David...

Thanks again Doug, not for me :-)

One more question if I can...

I'm in the process of rebuilding/Upgrading a PC with XP Pro. I'm reviewing
my notes from a previous install regarding the little "tweaks" I had to make
along the way. One of them was un-installing Windows Messenger. The
process then, which was more than a year ago, was to edit the Sysoc file in
the Windows\Inf directory. When I browse your site to confirm, I see a
completely different process now. What's changed ?

David...

The easiest way is just to use the command line:

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

This requires no editing of the SYSOC.INF file. All that editing it does is
make this command available in Add/Remove :-)

The script on my site just runs the command for you, since some people try
to type it in, and make mistakes, or the command line wraps in a post.

Ahhhhhh... Got it!

Best Regards...
