Changing the Default Layout on a New Slide or New Presentation

Is there a way, in lieu of a macro, to change the default suggested layout
for a new slide or new presentation for PowerPoint 2000 - 2003. I'd like to
have the Blank Slide Layout as the default. Thanks for any assistance.
