changing resource settings

I have a DVD burner attached to my notebook via a PCMCIA
USB2.0 adapter. I can see the drive through 'MyComputer',
play DVDs and CDroms etc.. but When I attempt to write to
this drive I get an error from the writing software. I can
write when attached via the onboard USB1.0 ports, but this
is very slow!

I have checked the Device Manager and there is a resource
conflict between my DMA controller and a SCSI controller.

My question is how can I reconfigure these settings. At
the moment the screen is greyed out? ( I am signed is as
an administrator)

Tampering with resource settings does not make sense IMHO.
Several things that make sense:
- Can your USB2 adapter work with external power supply? If yes, connect it.
Otherwice try another adapter that has external power supply.
- Check all cables and connections.
- Try other USB2 or USB1 devices over this adapter, such as USB flash.
