Changing Report Sorting option

I have a report that can be viewed at various level depending on the
selection by the user. At higher (lower?) levels the report shows less
detail by hiding the detail section and other group footers and headers. My
problem is that the sort order of the report is still detemined by those
hidden footers.

How do I get around that?

You can reassign the Control Source of the Group Level.

Set group level 3 to the same field as group level 2 to suppress it.
