What do I need to buy? A full version of xp professional or is there
any upgrade package out there that allows me to do so?

Any RETAIL version of Windows XP Professional will upgrade Windows XP Home
Edition.
Full retail package or upgrade version.

Sure you need it?

I guess so, I want to add my laptop to a small network under a server
that runs Small businnes server. I made a client set up disk and while
running the setup in my laptop is said that It wasn't possible to add
that kind of version of windows (xp home edition).

cheers!

Use a retail upgrade or full version of XP pro. Either will upgrade Home to
Pro. The OEM versions will only do clean installs and will not upgrade a
currently install version of XP.
Even though the upgrade from Home to Pro is almost a slam dunk, you should
always approach any upgrade the same way you would prep for a clean install.
This means you should have either a current image or a backup of all data
not available from other media.
