Hi,

I have a Dell Inspiron 8500 with a 30 gigabyte hard drive installed, but
it's running out of space. I want to upgrade my hard drive to an 80
gigabyte hard drive without reinstalling my operating system and programs.
Is there a way to transfer the contents of the 30GB drive (OS and all) to
the 80GB drive? Is there a program I can use or does WindowsXP already have
a program installed? I was looking at the "Files and Settings Transfer
Wizard" and using a DVD burner, but I don't know if that will transfer the
OS and installed programs.

Any help would be appreciated.

Andreas

You may wish to visit the support website of the manufacturer of your
new hard drive and see if they have a free utility program that you can use to
accomplish this task. For example, if you have a new Western Digital drive,
you can download their free Data Lifeguard Tools which includes "drive-to-drive
copy capability" (Ref: http://support.wdc.com/download/).

Fujitsu

IBM and Hitachi

Maxtor

Seagate

Or you can purchase Norton Ghost and create an "image"
of your old hard drive:
