Changing link sources, for whole document

I create an analysis in excel and then link it to a word template. In the
process, I need to change the sources of all my links in the document to a
different excel. So far, I have been able to either edit each link
individually - a very time consuming and tedious task OR don't change the
source and rename the excel file each time to the original source.

So, how do I change ALL the sources at once?

In Word, press Ctrl+H on your keyboard and the Replace window appears.
Simply enter the old link in the "Find what" field and enter the new link in
the "Replace with" field, then click the "Replace All" button at the bottom
of this window. This will replace the old link with whatever you entered as
the replacement - throughout the document or template.

Thanks for your help but didn't work.

The Find and Replace feature seems to work only for WITHIN the documents. I
need to change all the links in the document that go to a particular excel,
to go to a diffferent excel. I tried your suggestion and it turned up with "0
changes". But, under find the location is something like

C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\blahblah\ blah blah\ and so
on.xls

Not sure if that is what you meant. Thanks though.

You need to replace the display text, then display fields and replace the
actual HYPERLINK field text, then update the fields.

If you toggle the field codes in the document (ALT+F9) to display the
links - eg

{LINK Excel.Sheet.8 "D:\\My Documents\\Test\\Casedata.xls"
"Sheet1!R4C1:R4C4" \a \f 4 \h}

You can then run replace to change the sheet information within the field
structure. Toggle back, then CTRL+A followed by F9 to update the document to
reflect the new information.

You wouldn't believe how long it took me to figure this out (especially the
last step). <g>

Suzanne;
I have tried to use your advice. But since I have poor knowledge I am not
able to do it.
I wonder if you can give me more detail steps regarding the changing link
sources for whole document procedure you mentioned in your prevoius message.

Thanks in advance.
Maperalia.

I just posted the same question today under "Change source in all fields"

Suppose you have a hyperlink such as http://word.mvps.org. In Word, this
consists of two parts, the text displayed and the actual hyperlink behind
it. In this example, they are the same, but Word can display text that is
different from the actual URL or path. If you press Alt+F9 in Word, you will
see (for the above link)

{ HYPERLINK http://word.mvps.org }

Suppose you want to change that link to http://sbarnhill.mvps.org. You have
to do this in two passes:

1. With field results displayed (you see the link http://word.mvps.org), you
search for http://word.mvps.org and replace with http://sbarnhill.mvps.org.

2. You then Alt+F9 to toggle the field display to show field codes and run
the same replace operation again, which replaces the path in the actual
HYPERLINK field.

3. Finally, you Ctrl+A and F9 to update the fields.
