I have burnt a copy of Win XP for my wife to put on her computer. Is
there a way of changing the install language, is there a file that will
instruct the use of French? TIA...

Don't you think it be better to be using a legitimate copy, rather than
a pirated version, if you want to get help from a Microsoft-hosted
newsgroup?

You cannot upgrade or convert from one language version of the OS to
another, so you'll have to purchase and use the full version of WinXP
(in whatever language you want) to perform a clean installation.

It is a perfecty legitimate copy.

Legitimate copies come on factory-pressed CDs, not as "burnt copies."

You are only licensed to install it on one computer. Purchase one in the
language she wants.

Wow, you guy's......

I burnt it from MY "paid for" original.

Forgive me for wanting to install it on my laptop.

Humbly yours,

First, as you have already been told, you can not change the language.
You need to buy Windows XP in the language you want.
There is an exception if you have the Multilanguage User Interface which has
very limited distribution and availability.

Second, your license is only for one computer.
You can not install Windows XP on your computer and your wife's as well.
It makes no difference if the computers are a desktop and/or laptop.
Whether they are networked or not.
Whether it is for a home or business.
One license, one computer the way it has been since at least Windows 95.
Read the EULA for details:
Start/Run
Type "winver" ENTER
Click "End-User License Agreement"
